Hey, so I've recently discovered the presence of an active community of AWBW players in China (separate from the community on this forum), and I think it's quite unfortunate that the two communities have never really mixed much due to language differences. (with the possible exception of occasional league games.)

So I'd like to organise a tournament between the two communities! The idea is for you to get to play with people you usually don't play with, perhaps learn something new and hopefully make new friends as well. (Many thanks to the FANG and wyj_0081 for helping me organise it)

Here's how I plan it to go:
1. I'm going to get an equal number of players from both categories, preferably 7-8. (this is flexible, depending on interest)
2. Each player will be initially ranked within his/her category by skill level. (GL rating seems like a good place to start.)
3. Matches will take place between players of equal rank. So you'll always be playing with someone from the other category.
4. After each round, the rankings will be reassigned based on points, and you will be matched with the corresponding players.
5. There will probably be about 1-2 rounds. (due to time concerns, though if the first round finishes quickly enough I would happily extend it to more rounds)
6. The side that's won at the end is the side with more cumulative points!

Right now I'm not sure how many of you would be interested in joining, so this post is just to gauge interest. Let me know what you think of it. Also, any ideas and suggestions to improve the tournament are greatly welcomed~

Cheers!

Yeah I'd play in this. The format seems okay, though I'd like it if each player got to play more than one game. Ideally there would also be a couple of team games included.

I agree, a couple of team games would be great- and that would also allow players to play 2 games, 1 individual and 1 team.

Hmm, okay. 1 round of team games may not be unfeasible, though I'm slightly worried that it'll end up dragging on forever. Teams could be split by GL rating as well, or a mixture of GL rating and the results of the individual round.

Honestly I personally want to have more than 1 individual round, but I'm not sure how long it will take, and some Chinese players have expressed concern about the duration. For now I'll keep it in mind - we'll see how long the first round takes, and I'll decide whether we can have another one from there.

Also, Walker has been added to the list of interested players.

Also, with regards to maps, any of the Global League maps are great. If people want something new, I'm sure I can help dig up some good options.

Is 6 players enough? A 6v6 tournament seems pretty good, though I don't know how many Chinese players are interested.

Hmm. The last time I checked, I've gotten about 10 names from the Chinese side so far, so I think we might be able to wait for a few more signups here. Madd Maxx has indicated that he'll play only if it's a fog tournament, which I don't want it to be but I can try to pair him with someone from the Chinese side who also wants a fog battle.

Other than that, still waiting for a few replies e.g. from MorganLeah, Nyvelion, Meta Rexy, and other assorted players who are still actively playing AWBW.

In any case this probably won't start until Xmo's tournament is largely or completely over, so I'll notify you when we begin. Cheers!

Oh. Well then I wouldn't even take signups yet since it will be months before Xmo5's tourney finishes. I don't see any reason they can't be concurrent.

Yeah, it will take ages for all of the games to finish for my tourney so no worries about running this one at the same time.

Oh, really? Okay then. The Chinese side is still not ready though, I estimate it needs a week or so. I'll post here once we can begin

@Everdan I haven't got any messages after we finally decided the rule. I hope we can start this tournament soon. Can you make a list of all the players joined in?
