AWBW seems to be down

Looks pretty bad, is the game gone for good?

It's down for me, too.
Let's hope it's just a temporary hiccup and the site appears online again, soon.

The way the site is heading, it will go down again sooner or later.

I guess someone is gonna have to email marriner.

Maybe we need to help with server costs. I would donate if the site admin was democratic and transparent with wide representation from varying ability players and different countries.

And of course the admin being democratic would organise bug fixes and set up the kind of tournaments or leagues that actual players (not ex-players) really want after wide discussion. Because if they didnt we d vote them out.

For example official league is very unreliable ranking because some people have only 1 game running while other can have 20 games running simultaneously.  Thats why Hellraider never got higher than about number 7 most of the couple of years he participated. Obviously something there not working too well, he should have quickly risen up higher. The global league organisers refused to debate about the details of the league beforehand even with many of the experienced players, the backbone of awbw was ignored.  I m not gonna donate without assurances that its gonna be debugged and organised properly. And also map committee too must become democratic.

They got away for too long saying that normal players cant understand the issues and so awbw cannot be democratic, the standard excuse of dictatorial juntas. Anyhow its not desireable and not true for many reasons. Average joe is not so daft he cannot understand the explanations of whoever offers them. So logic will out.

It would be nice to have a reformed AWBW, but our best bet is CWT.
I just hope to be able to keep playing on AWBW until Custom Wars Tactics can take over.
A democratic admin sounds nice, but I doubt somebody who put that much work into something would want to give his project away.

Yeah, that is strange, it seems to be down everywhere. Maybe something within the PHP broke completely this time... I'm contacting amarriner again. Hopefully, I'll be successful on reaching him.

Ooo ooo! We should start taking bets on how long it will be before it has another "episode" and how long it will be down! For the sake of clarity I would define a minimum length of time that can constitute the site being "down" such as a 2 hours. That way it is guaranteed to be recognized and little glitches here and there can't be mistaken for a true problem.

This site will die for good sooner or later, you can bet on that for sure!

Hey, on a related note, I just noticed that amarriner.com got an update! Anyone else seen that yet?

Okay, why are the url tags not working? I even double checked by adding in the hyperlink with the interface rather than manually typing it and I got the same problem.

Yeah, it's down again on this end as well.  Shame, was going to work on editing the Global League tonight as a little surprise, haha.

Only 2 days being back online and it messes up again.

i wonder if it is bugs within the AWBW program itself causing trouble
or possibly numerous problems
lets face it there are many bugs which never get atended to
some of these just mess up a game and are not going to cause trouble elsewhere
but really to be on safe side it would be better to always attend to bugs

For example , what about the "never ending games", many were deleted but not from the special leagues. They were never deleted. There are games running at minus - 500 days and silly stuff like that.
And what about the bug with the map editor making maps which if you fill with plain only will work for the first 33 tiles bug? Could maps like that bug up the site ?
Maybe some of these bugs cause like never ending do-loops which when there are too many or some other load cause a crash.
Does anyone have any idea which aspects of the awbw package could be causing big problems for the server?

No free memory being left could be a problem, as there's lots of content being created, but (almost) none deleted

Yeah, that's part of what I suspect the issue is.

Well if its stuff as simple as that thats easy . I wish AWBW were more transparent about whats going on. im sure lots of us can help or know someone with ideas.

For example last time i looked there were something like tens or hundred of thousands of maps hanging around  ... many of which are absolutely total dross .. many of which are huge and just hopelessly made like no factories or just obvious nonsense often by users who didnt log in for like 7 years,

Lets get stuck in checking and deleting the dross. I think map committee can delete maps.

Also AWBW has many thousands of users .. many from old days accounts hardly used and abandoned years ago eg in 2008.  We could clean here a bit. Or at least their maps ..maybe keep 1 good map each for person just in case of .. historical record,

The total number of games being played nowadays is waaaaaaay down on years back, unless theres tons of neverending bugged games.?? I dont see many folk making maps much nowadays but im not sure maybe its just my impression.

If its server costs we need to know, hell, we ll just have to donate.  Id be happy especially if we thought the site would get attended to.

I'm pretty sure this is highly unlikely (and I'll sound pretty stupid), but I can't help thinking; Maybe someone is messing with the site?

Or the site could probably be under maintenance?
