It takes a lot to get a map included in the GL listing- its a very specific subset of maps. There are a ton of really good map makers that don't have any maps featured in the league and just making a good map isn't always enough. In fact, most of the people who do have maps featured have a ton of experience making maps of this specific size/style spread over multiple accounts. So don't feel bad if you aren't there (neither am I  Smile ) because it takes a lot of practice and careful planning.

If you're honestly interested in making league maps, I would recommend doing some serious homework on the current ones. Look at them carefully and consider all of the different fronts and strategies involved. How hard is it for certain units to get to certain places? What types of units and tactics are favored? Is there something you can do to encourage other units/tactics to become more important? Where will the battlefronts form and what are the consequences? How does CO choice impact gameplay? In the maps above everything has been meticulously calculated out and things forests, mountains, chokepoints, and roads are all placed in very specific places to impact how the battle unfolds. Worrying about aesthetics on top of that just makes it all the more difficult. Just some things to keep in mind.  Smile

I will likely be updating the Global Maps over the course of the next 7 days.  I will likely remove maps before maps are added.  Just a heads up.  It's happening dot gif and whatnot.  Blood on my Hands and Shangri-La will remain safe because they're amazing but some other map changes need to happen for the people who still play competitively.

I think long and hard about these decisions, so if you disagree, understand where I'm coming from. Expect removal of some old content, and the addition of new, like any strategy game's ranked maps list.

Yes good. I think we played several times over on some maps.
I dont know about other players, but i never got to play on a few, particularly the following look very interesting and different

obviously i am not seeking any game advantage just wondering if these could be kept on for a while,  changed later rather than sooner.

As far as new maps go i guess its a lot of work searching out a large number of decent and fair maps.  

In addition to whatever maps the map committee has in the pipe-line, it might be nice to ask the league players to suggest one map each, which after checking over for fairness etc , could be included in our official league (numbers permitting). Or possibly placed on hold if there are too many. Strike has apparently sent everyone this forum link so everyone in the league can know if they care to be informed.

Such a scheme may generate quite a bit of renewed interest in maps and map-making which seems to have gone on back burner recently.

Also i am wondering if other people would like to see a bit more diversity in map selection types. For example couldnt we have a couple of mixed base maps ... a few to choose from

Very busy this weekend and this coming week. Astral Body and Sahara have been removed, Border Patrol and Masked Fury have been added. I will make a post when I have the time regarding the decisions, but I do not know when that will be.

Gotta help some relatives with some medical stuff from Monday to Thursday, that starts tomorrow. The posts may come as late as Friday if I don't have the time between now and then.

Will talk about them more later, and maps to be added, later, gotta go grab some groceries while I still have time today. Rest assured though, I literally considered these removals for months before coming to a decision.

That is a bit of a pity as quite a few maps in global league i had to play many times and we are a bit bored with them.
I notice Border Patrol was only in league for 2 or 3 months?. Perhaps maps could stay in league for at least one year to give us a chance to play on them, as games do progress pretty slowly nowadays in league anyway. Was there some unexpected problem with these particular maps?

Anyway thanks for all the work finding, checking and updating league maps. If we can help in some ways please make suggestions.

Rend the Earth was on the block for removal for ages due to a number of small issues and lack of intuitive design. The map is wonderful and creative and was well liked by the Map Committee for those reasons, but was disliked by a significant portion of the competitive community due to its lack of intuitive play. It was a very difficult decision to make, but I think this is the right one for now.

Border Patrol was mostly liked as a competitive map but unliked as a League map from the feedback I received on this website and on AWBW, since it moved a bit slowly and had a lack of the dynamic capture phase and development into the midgame present on other League maps such as Arcadepunk and Bel'Shir Beach, and didn't resolve that in interesting ways via creative midgame engagements and unit compositions as well as other League maps like on Blood on my Hands or Shangri-La.

Keep in mind any map under review may be added, removed, or re-added from the Global League in the future, and maps will likely be rotated in and out more regularly in future updates. The plan is to keep the Global League dynamic by cycling regular maps into and out of it, but maintain a small list of classic maps like Blood on my Hands, Shangri-La, All Roads Lead to Sol, and so on. This should help to serve the best of both worlds between maintaining a reliable feel to the meta while mixing things up with more creative map ideas like Rend the Earth. If they are well liked, they may even be integrated into the classic Global League maps, but if not, they will be cycled out to give other maps a chance.

The best way you wonderful people can help is honestly by continuing to play the game, making content both on AWBW and on the forums here, and advertising both AWBW and the forums. Additionally, help people in other communities like the Custom Wars scene and build communication between those groups and ours. It helps tremendously.
