New User Looking for People

Hey all! I spent a few hours digging around the web and looking for the advance wars community and I'm still not sure if I'm at the right place. Does anyone still hang out here?

I'm looking to host a group match if anyone is interested!

Hi megamaster and welcome to the AWBW forum!

You did come to the right place for Advance Wars, but maybe not in the way that you imagined. This forum and community is centered around a website version of Advance Wars, called Advance Wars By Web (AWBW for short). The site comes equipped with a design map editor (max 30 maps per account) and it's not restricted the same way as the ones from the original game were. You can make huge maps with lots of properties and up to 14 different countries. The CO selection spans the first 3 games and most of the other specs and stats are taken from here and there (We have Dual Strike units/properties but most CO powers are based on AW2, for example). The catch here is that there's no AI player, so you have to play against other people.

Anyway, I'll spare you more details, but just know that there's a lot of unique features of this community that make it somewhat different from the Advance Wars you're used to, while still being the same old game. If you choose to stick around, we're happy to have you, but if not, just let me know and I'll direct you towards something closer to what you're looking for (I'm sure some people around here know a thing or two about AW communities ) If you do stick around, I recommend a couple of resources to help learns some of the unique features of the site and community:

• The AWBW charts page has a ton of useful information on AWBW unit and CO stats, as well as a list of countries, listed by turn order.
  
  
• The AWBW Wiki has a ton of site-specific stats and information. If you have any questions beyond what the charts can answer, I'd start here.
  
  
• If you play any games here, the damage calculator is a great tool. On AWBW, the interface requires you to move before performing a secondary action (capture, attack, etc.) which means you won't be able to plan how much damage you'd do to all potential targets before moving. The damage calculator will tell you that, and will even give you a luck component (hint- recalculate a few times to get a good idea of how luck varies) The actual formula for calculating damage (if you're into math) can be found on the wiki too.
  
  
• Lastly, there are some guides (some even authored by me) that will help you pick up the basics. I'd recommend the beginners guide on the wiki (for site navigation etc.) and my FTA Guide ("what's FTA?") for now. If you want to design maps on AWBW, stop by my Map Design Guide- it'll help you understand what most site users are interested in and what we've learned as a community over the years on an overview level.

What other sites are there for advance wars online multiplayer?

I'm actually not aware of any other sites where you can play AW online against other players. There's some development work going on that you can take a look at in the Custom Wars Tactics subforum, but I'm not sure what stage they're in right now; it's been a while since I heard an update.

That said, I'm fairly confident there are other AW communities, they just aren't centered around a site the same way this one is. (Again, to the extent of my knowledge, but I don't get out much)

So, if you're looking to play some games, you've definitely come to the right place! If it's easier for you, why don't you let me know what kind of game you want to play (fog, weather, map type/size etc.) if you have a preference and I'll set up a game for us. That way you don't have to worry about setting anything up and you can ask me questions about interface etc. through the messaging system ("Press Messages") during the game. Otherwise, feel free to set one up yourself and let me know either here or via PM on the site.
