Map Designer and Unreliable Saving
Problem: The map designer will not save all parts of a map when editing.
I did some experimenting after trying (and failing) to edit a map for the umpteenth time, and managed to narrow down the problem: The map designer can not and will not save any tiles beyond the first 333 tiles in the map, regardless of map size or other factors. (Why exactly 333 tiles, which seems slightly arbitrary, is beyond me.)
How to replicate:
1. Go to Design Maps and make a new map that's at least 20x20 tiles. It will be filled with sea tiles.
2. Fill the map with plains.
3. Save the map.
4. View the map. Only a part of the map will have changed to plains tiles, the rest will remain sea.
Obviously, this does not affect maps whose total area are less than 333 tiles. This also does not seem to affect uploading a map made with another editor (such as Headphone's map designer), but it still prevents you from reliably making alterations to the map after it's uploaded, any changes beyond the first 333 tiles will still not register.
(I'm not sure why I'm bothering to post this, since it seems that AWBW is on its last legs already, but I figured I might as well.)

Re: Map Designer and Unreliable Saving
It's interesting that units have their own problem. They can't be saved after the first 333 tiles either. Even if there are no other units placed before those tiles. Interesting because the alternative would be that the first 333 units are saved regardless of placement.
I see this problem started about the same time as the other PHP depreciation issues. I'm not sure which one would cause this, but I can't think of a way to get around this on the user's side. Wish I knew more but that's all I've got after looking into this.

Re: Map Designer and Unreliable Saving
Apparently the map editor on the site puts through about a billion post vars, and PHP added a configurable cap to post vars in one of the newer versions. I bumped this up to 20x the default amount, giving you roughly 6600 tiles+units+buildings to work with. This should be fine for anything thats not a 50x50 map with buildings and units on every square, in which case I have no sympathy
Also went through and cleared out some of the other defects I noticed. Map comments at the very least should be readable now

Re: Map Designer and Unreliable Saving
Unfortunately, I don't really know what everything is. I popped on the site recently and noticed some regressions, and Morgan pointed this bug out to me, so some stuff is fixed. If there's more broken things around let me know - happy to pick off any low hanging fruit.
I don't have access to the server the forum is hosted on, though
Edit: I'm in #amarriner.com on efnet right now if you want to chat

Re: Map Designer and Unreliable Saving
Glenstorm, thanks alot for your help. would you happen to keep in contact with Aaron marriner and would you know what's been happening with the site?
We know its been growingly unstable and Aaron said the site may not last through 2014. We would like to help - for example if its server costs we could try to raise funds and chip in - but we aren't sure what the issues are

Re: Map Designer and Unreliable Saving
Looks like we have a repeat of this same issue, except now you can't even publish maps (at least from the editor... perhaps the auto publish when you upload a new map works).
I mean, that and the fact that the site's been down "for maintenance" like 75% of the last week. Is anyone actually working on it, or is it just borked?

Re: Map Designer and Unreliable Saving
Hey, I know I'm about a year late in checking, but I just tried it and I was able to create a new map and publish it okay - is this still an issue? Is there something specific I need to do to reproduce the bug?

Re: Map Designer and Unreliable Saving
There were a couple of things that were fixed by amarriner after the site migration, but there was a laundry list of other bugs still plaguing the site. If you're up to fixing any of them, I'm sure we'd all greatly appreciate it! Let me go over the list again and see which ones are still issues.. I think we have a running tab on the MC subforum that's somewhat up to date.
Also, do you still have your site permissions? I know that was something amarriner said he was going to re-implement, but I don't know if he did or not.

Alright, I've had a chance to go over the list we had and check the status of some of the bugs. I sent you a PM with the ones that are still active.

Turns out the answer to this is no I'll get some traction on it haha. I'll poke here again if I do anything exciting.
